ELMER
IN THE SNOW
“Hello! I am Elmer, the patchwork elephant”
One morning, Elmer met a group of elephants who didn’t look very happy.
“What happens? “, asked Elmer
“It is cold”, said one of the elephants
“It is not really cold, only a little bit more than the other days. You
need a good walk to warm you up. Come with me”, said Elmer.
Elmer guided the elephants in a different direction.
“I am very warm now Elmer, thank you”, said one of the elephants.
“Come on, follow me there is something that I want to show you”, said
Elmer.
A little later the elephants found a white site, everywhere was white
“SNOW!” they shouted
They had heard about snow but this was the first time that they saw it.
The elephants ran and played in the snow.
“It is really cold, cold but fun”, said one of the elephants.
Soon the elephants were sliding and crashing and falling and really
enjoying themselves.
They didn’t notice Elmer quietly sneak away.
The elephants forgot Elmer until they heard his voice.
“Help! Help! I have frozen solid”, said Elmer.
The elephants stopped playing and went to find Elmer.
They found a stood white elephant.
“He‘s frozen solid” told
one of the elephants.
Then they touched the white elephant and a piece fell of.
“It’s made of snow”, he said.
“I know where Elmer is, look there are his footprints, come one”, told
one of the elephants.
The elephants followed his footprints and after they found him.
Elmer started throwing snowballs and the others did the same.
“It is starting to snow. It is time for us to go”, said Elmer.
The elephants came back to the trees and then at home.
When there were at home one of the elephants said,
“snow is very fun but it is really cold. I want to came to the snow another
day”.

ACTIVITIES ABOUT ELMER IN THE SNOW
Before reading the story I will ask these questions to children,
-
Have you ever been in the snow?
-
Have you ever seen a elephant?
While I am reading the story I ask them some questions, for example:
-
Do you know the meaning of patchwork?
-
What do you think is going to happen now?
